mk 2 bonnet

Post04 May 2017 20:07

I have have just had the misfortune to have a fire under the bonnet of my 1966 a40, i think i might have left a rag under the bonnet so after driving to a garage i returned to find a smoke coming from the engine bay.
it is repairable and has been collected by the insurance company but it is likley that they will need a replacement bonnet does anyone have any idea wherei might get one if needed.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give with this

Oh gosh, Paul, really sorry to learn of your misfortune. I do hope the insurance co. treat you fairly and that someone on here will be able to come up with a bonnet if required. Did the fire's heat really buckle the steel to the extent that the entire bonnet need replacing?

It has been collected so i hope it goes to. A company that understands older cars, the bonnet might go again but the paint would need to come off to know.
so far the insurance do seem to be trying very hard not to pay but that might be their standard start to a fire claim, if needed i will just have the car back and sort it myself the car is to good not to repair again

Sorry to hear Paul. Please do sort it yourself if necessary.
( I knew someone who's insurance company wrote off his "near immaculate" car "just" because they could'nt get a front wing sorted. Almost impossible to buy a new old stock of course, but an experienced body person could surely have saved it. )
