Front Suspension

My Mk2 has a terrible knock from front drivers side. Have completely stripped both sides, wishbones, springs, new king pins, and shimmed correctly, Wheel bearings, Brake shoes, replaced top and bottom rubber bump stops. fitted MG midget spring pan lowering kit.Could the shock=absorber cause this knock over rough surfaces. they are noise free when disconnected from top joint and moved by hand. at a loss what to try next.

Steering box loose ,ditto drop arm
Possibly idler lift (is noise definitely from drivers side ?)
Are the pins on wishbone/spring pan or whatever you call it fitted correctly ,they must be fitted with the nuts on the
inside if fitted the other way can cause movement and wear to hole in chassis.the washer has a locating ring ,the pin
does not(see pics)
Another thought ,is your lowering kit allowing the spring to move and cause the noise.

Ignore last mail your fitting is correct .Had a bit of a blank sorry not thinking straight lost a good friend to the big C yesterday concentration bit sketchy

Hi all many thanks for all the advice . While at the restoration show Shepton Mallet. had a long chat with Mike Hodgson and confirmed the knock must be the front shock. so Sunday I filled them up with some 15/40 oil. Wow!! what a transformation no noise and a very quite ride home. great result.

Glad you were able to locate the issue with help from Mike ( I often ask him for help myself given that he used to work on our cars when they were still newish )
